Developing a Growth Mindset

Some would suggest that putting is a natural gift, that some have, and some do not.

Some would say that it is a science that can be learnt, and others would say, that putting ability is gained through trial and error and years of experience.  However, the reality is that putting is a combination of them all.

Putting Fundamentals Coaching Plan

Good putting requires that you to perfect your ability to consistently adopt a sound putting technique, that is conducive to good putting.  Therefore, developing a sound and reliable technique is a vitally important if you are to be a consistently good putter.

The Putting Fundamentals Coaching Plan is designed to help golfers develop the skills and mindset to support the development of their putting technique.  Green2Tee Golf has produced these video resources that are underpinned by research and years of practical experience and qualification.

Lesson Learning Outcomes

The Putting Fundamentals Coaching Plan aims to:

  • Inspire golfers to develop a biomechanically sound putting technique
  • Provide insights and tips to help develop golfers putting ability
  • To develop the golfers putting distance control
  • Help golfers to develop a consistent putting routine

What is putting?

According to the English Oxford Living Dictionaries, to putt is to, “Try to hit a golf ball into the hole by striking it gently so that it rolls across the green” simple?

Some would suggest that putting is a natural gift, that some have, and some do not.  Some would say that it is a science that can be learnt, and others would say, that putting ability is gained through trial and error and years of experience.  However, the reality is that putting is a combination of them all.

A far better description of what makes a great putter would be, a player who combines the science of putting with the ability to read greens and visualise the putts break.  Combine these with the ability to control the balls speed and therefore distance makes a great putter.

Putting Mindset?

“Don’t try too hard to hole every putt. A ‘must make’ attitude puts too much pressure on your stroke. Just do your best to get the correct line and speed and roll the ball at the hole on that line”. Ben Crenshaw

One of the most valuable lessons you will ever learn about putting is that, the statistics prove that no one is perfect, you are not going to make every putt.

Then when you compare your statistic with the best players in the world who struggle just as much as we do sometimes, it starts to put things into perspective.  The average PGA Tour player only makes 50% of their putts from 8ft and just over 60% from 6ft.  So, as a mere mortal who doesn’t have the time to practice like a tour player, if you make 1 in 3 of them, you’re doing well.

The point here is that you should look at the statistics of great putters and measure your performance accordingly, rather than being disappointed with yourself when you don’t make every putt you look at.
