DRIVER COACHING PLAN

The Driver Coaching Plan will help to develop your ability to make the necessary adjustments to your set up, to be able to hit the driver off the tee.

Every golfer would love to hit the ball long and straight down the fairway. However, no golfer wants to hit a 300 yard drive out of bounds or into a hazard. The priority of the tee shot is to get your ball in play, without getting into any of the course hazards.

Driver Coaching Plan

A lot of people struggle to hit their driver well because, they don’t make the necessary adjustments to their set up.  One of the other common mistakes is that they try to hit the ball as hard as possible.  To reach your full potential with the driver and hit more fairways with straighter and longer shots, you need to adjust your set up and a smooth swing.

The Driver Coaching Plan has been designed to help you adjust the golf swing fundamentals so that you can hit your driver well.

Lesson Learning Outcomes

The Driver Coaching Plan aims to:

  • Inspire you to develop your technique when using the driver
  • Help you understand how adjustments to grip, stance, posture and balance affect your driver shots
  • Help you to focus your practice sessions on making real improvement

Learning Process

The golf swing is a complex movement that requires that you develop the fundamentals of grip, stance, posture and balance.  However, these fundamentals have to be adjusted slightly when using the driver.  Once you understand how to make the adjustments, you will have a lot more success with your tee shots.

You have to make adjustments with the driver because:

  • The driver is the longest club at around 45 inches, compared to a 5 iron at about 38 inches.
  • A typical loft angle for the 5-iron is 28 degrees
  • The driver has the lowest loft of any golf club. Loft is the angle of the club face that controls trajectory and affects distance.
  • To hit a good iron shot you need a descending blow
  • A driver has a loft between 7 and 12 degrees
  • Drivers with lofts of 9.5 and 11 degrees are common. The higher-lofted driver is typically a better choice for an amateur player
  • According to Trackman, the average PGA TOUR player has a vertical launch angle of 11.2 degrees
  • A trackman study showed that scratch golfers had a nearly 0-degree angle of attack with the driver off the tee. While average golfers had a -2.1-degree angle of attach
  • That’s why you need to hit the driver on the upswing
